As a general rule, a multimodal transport operation can take between a few days up to several weeks. Nevertheless, everything changes when it comes to project cargo transportation. As the name indicates, this type of transport deals with merchandise that due to its nature, cannot be forwarded with the commonly used means of transportation.
Multicargo's Success
The last project Multicargo was involved in (precision metallomechanics), had its groundwork done in the summer of 2014, but the actual transportation took place only in December, 2015.
Some parts, due to their fragility, had to be handled with extra care in order to be shipped (with special transportation) from the exporter’s premises to a northern port in Europe, then transferred to MAFI equipment (proper equipment for handling cargo with big dimensions) and afterwards shipped to the destination port in the US. Simultaneously, the pieces of the equipment that could be loaded into containers (40’ Open Top) were shipped directly from Portugal to the US.
Multicargo was responsible for the entire multimodal operation, from booking the space with the land transport companies and carriers, to providing assistance with packaging, loading, and customs procedures, then monitoring all steps of the process until the shipment arrived at the destination port (where our agent took care of the customs clearance) and the delivery of the cargo to its final destination.
The whole shipment was delivered on schedule and in impeccable condition. Our client was very pleased with the service that Multicargo provided and praised the commitment and professionalism shown throughout the process.
At the moment this client is entrusting us with new projects to different destinations, which are to take place throughout 2016.
